Three Mariners

Keep taking the painkillers bois! - a Tramadol & Cocodamol fuelled evening with The Two Fat Cyclist, Uncle Lyndon & Grampa Seimon at The New Three Mariners, Laugharne.

The TFC & Uncle Lyndon (BFGUL) were joined by Grampa Seimon Pugh Jones of the Tin Shed Museum, Laugharne last night for their gig at the New Three Mariners Laugharne.

This was the first gig for the TFC at the 'Mariners' for over a year and the new line up only had a couple of hours practice earlier the same day to run through the set, much of which was 'new' to Gramps even though they charted in the 70's and 80's.

BFGUL arrived in the township at around 2pm but due to ongoing health issues and massive painkiller intake had to get his 'head down' for an hour on the Grist and asked Andy (aka Kenny) to 'give him a knock on the way through'

Pork pie arrived at around 4.30pm to the vocal straining of the Highway Jones  (BFGUL side project) chief warbler and the screaming noise of his new Zoom effects pedal. 'It's even got a drum machine'

We practiced a dozen numbers and things didn't feel to be going too well and the worry started to set in. We were reassured when BFGUL popped another handful of prescription meds into his gob and said ' it'll be alright on the night'.

We then retired to Penllew for tea and olives and another 40 winks and more meds for the lead guitar and phone texting maestro.

We got to the venue at 8pm and started to set up when the lead premadonna disappeared for some Spar bargain bin taurine drink and more meds. Then the extension lead packed in and it fell to Uncle Lyndon to effect a repair...It was like watching Hunter S Thompson in fear and loathing in Las Vegas with more and more blister packaged pills being consumed...and weird shit going on in his head...' I'm balancing the downer effects of the Tramadol and Cocodamol with energy drink....I'll be fine....' he mumbled in between texting sex messages to his wife.

One minute he was a drum technician, the next a guitar tech, the next he was fixing the electricity supply to the pub, the next he was crooning out his own version of 'Walking in Memphis' - Lyndon was raring to go!

The drunken Cornelly crowd (mum, dad, aunts and uncles) arrived and we started at 9pm with a first set of 9 songs.

A few pints of Bow for Porkpie and Speckled Hen or four for gramps the drummer and another 9 songs saw the second set put away.

The place was buzzing, including BFGUL by this point and things seemed to all fall into place.

The final set of 17 songs saw us churn all the great singalongs out and we ended with a request to give it the guns on 'Come Together' for a second time.

Gramps and BFGUL really stepped up to the plate and it all went down a storm.

After the gig Andy suggested another practice session before we head off to the US...'no it'll be fine, we'll wing" it says BFGUL....."Lyndon" Andy says, "this time the week after next we'll be playing in Chicago....."........silence.....from BFGUL

Next up for the TFC, Carmarthen Athletic reunion singalong with Steve Stone and friends next Saturday.
